I fell out of love with browser games many years ago, getting tired of all the samey, boring games that flooded every game page, not wanting to trawl them to find those hidden “gems”.
That was until recently when I was sent a link to a game that got me hooked quicker than a Rattata’s Quick Attack. Pokémon Tower Defense is a genius little game that takes the original Pokémon games look and adapts it into a neat little tower defense game.
The story is silly but doesn’t try to be anything but that. The gameplay is simple; you choose your starter Pokémon from the classic Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander dilemma and you go from level to level stopping Team Rocket from stealing your Rare Candy by placing your Pokémans at different locations and choosing their attacks.
Don’t get me wrong, this game isn’t going to change your life or revolutionize games, but it’s nice to see that browser games can still throw out surprises now and again. And hey, the guy that made this deserves a job at Game Freak since he’s come up with an original idea which they haven’t in 10 years.
