Soluto is self branded as “Anti-frustration Software“, for the PC user who is fed up of waiting… and waiting…. and waiting for their PC to do anything. And while most performance issues can be rectified in a Disk Cleanup and Defrag, other factors can really clog down your Windows based system.
Soluto’s goal is to get you to fall in love with your computer all over again, teach you that you don’t need to go out and spend over £500 on a new computer every year, and that for free, you CAN do something about it.
Soluto has 3 main functions, the first function is why you NEED to download this: to read, report and help reduce windows load times, meaning you can start using your computer sooner. Using a clean layout it will show you a timeline of every program you launch as you login, split into four categories. No-Brainers are programs that Soluto recommends you chop from your boot. Potentials are programs that you might want to chop from your boot. Cannot Remove are mostly system programs that are required by Windows, then there is Removed Applications, which are all the applications you’ve already dealt with. Hover over any of the programs and it will expand to give you more information on that program, give you an idea of the implications if you remove it from your boot, and present a pie chart showing you what other Soluto users have done. This system of information they call the PC Genome Project, and can be added into by any user in the same idea as Wiki page, helping more advanced users to help the less advanced users. Removing a program from your boot however doesn’t mean that you won’t load it at all as Soluto can “Delay” the start of less important applications rather than just “Pausing” them, and if you make a mistake you can find all the applications you’ve removed already and put them back into your boot.
Top Marks for User Friendly Interfaces
Secondly Soluto can lighten your web browser by disabling add-ons in IE and Firefox (and possibly other web browsers too I just don’t have any others installed), again using the PC Genome Project advice and information on the plug-ins are given. Lastly Soluto will record information of applications that crash unexpectedly, retrieve information on other similar crashes and advise any way of solving the problem.
While you may not use the last two features much, unless you install every toolbar known to man, it IS a very handy piece of software, and FREE to boot! Its greatest asset is how easy it is to use, and that is only complimented by a simple, clean layout and wording in plain English. The only downside is that the PC.G.P. is still a little patchy in its information.
