Took me an extra month or two but finally managed to scrape enough money together to head to the Games Workshop to buy the mighty Tau Commander Unit Shas’O Vior’la Shovah Kais Mont’yr (or Commander Farsight). Unfortunately for me, they did’nt have him. I was a bit disappointed to say the least, and so instead began to have a browse at the other various units and machines of war available for the Tau when I saw the army starter pack. It came with everything; Fire Warriers, Crisis Battle Suits and the mighty Hammerhead Battle Tank.
I hate to admit it, but my far too highly trained need to impulse buy (trained by Mark himself to make me pay for a wide range of stupid stuff) kicked in. Looking at my debit card I was truly caught in a morale spending crisis. The thought “you will have to do it sooner or later” jumped into my head and so I not only ended up paying for the pack, but also a new set of paint, bottle of spray paint, 2 brushes and the Tau player manual. Once again I find myself well into my overdraft……
After speaking to some of the guys in the workshop and getting some painting tips for the Tau I headed home in order to open all my new stuff. Having lost my original painting equipment it felt good opening up a new one. It comes with everything you need to start yourself off when it comes to building your army and is definitely worth picking up if you are interested in starting up a hobby like Warhammer. Also beware the glue, that stuff is strong (but more on that in the next entry).
I then turned to the army pack, not quite sure what to expect. Individual units can easily have 20 to 30 bits that all have to be positioned and glued together if you buy them in a normal pack. I had a whole starter army in this box and though I have built armies before, I feared for just how many separate bits and parts would be waiting for me inside the box.
HUNDREDS OF BITS! All kinds of multiple sizes and shapes with many of them unrecognisable to which unit they belong. After fishing through the colossal amount of parts I somehow managed to identify the parts for the XV25 Stealth Suits and have started to glue them together.
Plan to have these built ASAP so should hopefully have an update later this week with these put together and prepped for painting. It took me hours to sort through the rest of the bits and I’m still not entirely sure if I got it 100% right. Only time will tell.
